Mom's Recipe Chicken is located in Mississauga's Chinatown.
They offer so many variations of chicken dishes, but we decided to try the Hainan Style Chicken Rice and their famous Stuffed Chicken Wings. Both were quite delicious but I'm not sure if the stuffed chicken wings are worth the $3.99/each. This place also gets quite busy for dinner time, so I recommend coming a bit earlier (we had no problems getting a table around 5:30 PM).
I would definitely come back and try their other chicken dishes. -

I was really excited to try out this restaurant when it first opened up but didn't have an opportunity to do so until now. I read up on the reviews and was almost deterred to not go based on a few people stating that service was poor, the food was served cold and the list goes on.
Well, I decided to go against my doubts and I am so SO glad that I did go. It was honestly one of the most delicious and home-y (excuse me for the lack of a better word) meal I've ever had. The portions were plentiful, the chicken was flavourful, and the soup was a nice touch to cleanse your palette. I got the tasty chicken which was on more on the spicy side and my boyfriend got the royal chicken which was on the sweeter side. I see that a few have mentioned that the chicken is "cold". Yes, the chicken was not piping hot but hainan chicken is often put in a ice bath after boiling in order to avoid overcooking, maintain the moisture and reduce dryness. So for those who are expecting a hot served chicken, this is not the dish for you. But if you're up for a delicious flavourful chicken, then this hits home run. For $8.99 you get a hot bowl of traditional Chinese melon soup, a choice of steamed rice or lo mein noodles, and of course, your choice of chicken. The waitresses were very nice and accommodating. Never once showing any sign of fussing.
When it came time to pay - I do notice that they do add gratuity tip of 10% on your bill but I am perfectly fine with that based on the affordable price of the food and decent service. I'll definitely be coming back again. -

A restaurant offering mainly chicken (hence the name). For a Chinese restaurant, the interior is very modern and very clean.
Overall: This restaurant is located in the Mississauga Chinese Centre. I browsed the food options within the centre, including the food court, and I believe this is the best value. I also believe the chicken they serve is free-run (look at size of the chicken). However, this results in the portions being smaller than typical North American portions.
Note: - They sell rice as a side for $2 and the Hainanese chicken rice for $2.50
- Veggies as a side for $3.99?
(Just ask)
Ordered:
1) Mom's Recipe Stew Chicken Soup: $13.99
We were about to order vegetables as a side (the rice dishes do not come minimal vegetables), however, the helpful server suggested we order this soup which comes with vegetables, in addition to really large pork bones with a lot of pork and some negligible pieces of turkey(?).
I'm not sure how many patrons order this as the vegetables must have been stewing for hours (really don't need teeth).
It's a tasty soup, sufficient for 3-4 diners. It's a good way to get more vegetables.
2) Hainanese style chicken rice $8.99: This comes with Hainanese chicken and the Hainanese chicken rice (it is supposed to be cooked in chicken fat).
This was my least favourite dish because the chicken was the least flavourful - it didn't taste like it was marinaded. The chicken itself was cold (but I believe it is supposed to be cold or at least not warm).
It also comes with soup - but isn't worth talking about.
3) Salt baked chicken rice: $8.99 This chicken was also very flavourful and warm. As I normally discard the skin, I still found the meat very flavourful and not overly salty. I would order this instead of the Hainanese style chicken.
I think these rice dishes receive a quarter of a chicken.
4) Tea fragrance chicken: $9.99 (half chicken) This chicken was very flavourful. However, I would like more tea flavour to be infused into the meat. I think the other seasoning they used (maybe it's soya sauce) is too much - it was borderline too salty.
5) Steam Herbal Chicken $15 (full chicken). We took this home and reheated it. $15 for a full chicken that is free-run, cooked and stuffed with Chinese herbs, such as goji berries, ginseng, ginger, scallions, is a great deal.
Note, they do not cut the chicken, i.e. it is served whole. Instead, if you order to dine-in, they provide you gloves to eat it like a savage. The reason, they don't want all of the herbs to fall out etc. -

Tucked inside the Mississauga Chinese Centre, it's a clean modern look interior once you step in. There are two wooden shelves of chicken bowls on display which I found them cute. The rest of the walls are advertisement photos of their chicken dishes. The menu is simple and they obviously specialize in Chicken!!
They have combo deals for $8.50, depending on what type of flavoured chicken you would like. You can even pick your starch of rice/noodle.
My partner liked his hanan chicken and he said he would go back to it.
My chicken was surrounded by fried chilies. At least the noodle soup was hot in temperature. Nothing special about the broth. I would have like more veggies. Sadly this Cat was not fully full or satisfied with the meal.
Verdict- if I ever do go back, it's because of my partner. Otherwise, I'll rather eat something else in that plaza. -

If I could give this place 0 stars I would.
My boyfriend and I were super excited to try this place out since he's a HUGE fan of Chicken Rice. So we had high hopes for this place.
Mom's Recipe Chicken is a quaint little restaurant located inside the Chinatown in Mississauga (Chinese Center plaza). Inside, it's nicely lit and decored.
We ordered the Hainan Chicken Rice and boy, did we regret that decision...
Presentation wise it was beautiful but my god, the damn chicken was COLD! The rice was hot, the soup was hot but the chicken was fridge cold.
Now I've heard that Hainan chicken is served at room temperature.
This was not room temperature at all. It was literally so cold and stiff that my boyfriend and I put the chicken in the hot soup to "heat" it up. We were reluctant to send it back because for 1. the servers were extremely rude and unhelpful and 2. because of their rudeness we were afraid they would mishandle our food (if you know what I mean).
Oh! to make matters worse...when I went to pay the bill, the total came up to $19.21. The server took my debit card to tap on the machine when the receipt came out the total amount was $21.13.
I was really confused but later realized she added the tip herself! Sure it was only 10%, but still this is a very unjust and unethical way to handle business. Customers have the right to NOT tip or given the option TO tip. I was given neither.
I'm assuming not a lot of people tip in this place, for her to greedily and sneakily add it to my bill. Shame on you Mom's Recipe Chicken!
We left this place starving and feeling cheated on.
